OUR STORY

All the way back to 2023...

Our journey began with a shared frustration and a vision for change. As active members of various women’s business networking groups around town, Michelle and Amy—the founders of Women In Business RVA—noticed a recurring issue: gatherings often emphasized socializing over practical strategies for genuine business growth. The steep attendance fees and lack of focus on actionable outcomes left us yearning for a community that placed professional development front and center.

One day, driven by our mutual desire for something more meaningful, we sat down and poured our ideas into a mind-mapping session that sparked the start of something new. From that pivotal conversation, we envisioned a space where ambition and collaboration could truly intersect—a space where women would be empowered to lift each other up and achieve their goals with purpose and support.

Since that moment, we have been intentional in building this vibrant and dynamic community. Through an unwavering commitment to authentic connections, valuable resources, and real growth, Women In Business RVA is proud to provide a space where success is not just a possibility but an expectation for all. Our mission continues to be rooted in creating opportunities that inspire, connect, and empower every woman who joins us.

Now in 2025...

At Women In Business RVA (WIBRVA), we are dedicated to building an inclusive and empowering community where women entrepreneurs can succeed. Our mission is to inspire, connect, and provide women with the tools they need to create thriving businesses. As we continue to expand our reach and make a greater impact, we are excited to share an important milestone in our journey.

In January 2025, Afreen Gootee joined WIBRVA as a business partner, stepping into the role of Educational Outreach Liaison. Afreen’s passion for creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation of female entrepreneurs aligns seamlessly with our mission. In this role, she will focus on engaging with schools, colleges, and universities to guide young women into the world of business. Through these efforts, WIBRVA is committed to empowering future leaders with the knowledge and resources needed to explore their potential and achieve their goals.

By prioritizing collaboration and delivering impactful educational programs, we strive to close gaps, encourage innovation, and create opportunities for personal and professional growth. Moving forward, WIBRVA will remain focused on driving success for women entrepreneurs today while helping to prepare and inspire the leaders of tomorrow. Together, we’re building a legacy of empowerment and progress for women in business.
